Laser Hair Removal
For people who are tired of using irritating blades, messy depilatory creams, hot wax, and other temporary, inconvenient methods of hair removal, Dr. David Rankin offers laser hair removal at our Jupiter practice, near West Palm Beach. Laser hair removal with the CoolGlide® laser system offers men and women safe and effective permanent hair reduction. Most areas of the body can be treated with the CoolGlide® laser, including sensitive areas such as underarms and the bikini area.
Dr. Rankin prefers CoolGlide® for hair removal over other laser systems because of its unique design. The CoolGlide® laser hair removal system cools the skin as it disables the follicles responsible for growing new hair. Also, while other systems require that a patient allows their tan to fade before treatment, CoolGlide® can be used successfully on any color skin.
During treatment, patients may feel a mild stinging sensation. While a local anesthetic is available, many patients don't find it necessary. Since the skin will be sensitive after treatment, Dr. Rankin usually recommends that a sunscreen be applied before exposing treated skin to sunlight.
The number of laser hair removal treatments necessary to attain optimal hair reduction varies from patient to patient. Every person has their own hair growth cycle and since the laser only disables the hair follicles active at the time of treatment, it may take multiple sessions to target all of them.
Laser Tattoo Removal
Treatment with the Q-switched Nd: YAG laser is widely recognized as a superior method of tattoo removal. During treatment, the tattoo ink absorbs the laser light and is broken into tiny particles of pigment which the body then disposes of. The Q-switched Nd: YAG laser can be used on all types of tattoos. The number of treatments required depends on the location of the tattoo and the colors used. While black ink responds well to laser treatment, the removal of other colors may entail more treatments. Laser Vein Removal
Like sclerotherapy, laser vein removal is an outpatient treatment for spider veins, also known as telangiectasias. During laser vein removal, laser light selectively targets damaged blood vessels. As the vessels absorb the light, the heat collapses the blood in the vessels and causes them to shrink. Although a local or topical anesthetic is available, most patients experience no more than a mild stinging sensation. Some bruising is normal, however, and usually fades within a week. Dr. Rankin can help patients decide which method of vein removal will best meet their needs during a consultation at our laser treatment center in Jupiter and Lake Worth.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Scars, uneven pigmentation, fine lines, and sun damage are some of the common skin imperfections that can be improved with laser skin resurfacing. During the laser skin resurfacing procedure, either a CO2, erbium: YAG, or Pearl™ laser is used to vaporize the outer layers of damaged skin. Fresh, new skin emerges in its place, for a smoother, more luminous complexion. Although it is helpful for treating a range of skin conditions, laser skin resurfacing isn't appropriate for all patients. Those with darker skin may experience unsightly changes in pigmentation. For these patients, a less invasive procedure such as a chemical peel or microdermabrasion, also offered at our Jupiter and Lake Worth practice, may be an effective alternative.
Laser Skin Tightening
For those looking for a non-surgical solution to the loss of skin tone and texture, laser skin tightening with the Titan® laser may be the answer. The Titan® emits precisely calibrated beams of light which penetrate the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen. Often, patients notice immediate results with further improvement over the next three to six months as new collagen is formed. Although laser skin tightening can significantly improve the look and feel of a person's skin, those who have moderate to severe skin sagging may receive more benefit from facelift, neck lift, arm lift, or tummy tuck surgery.
