Dr. Rankin conducts a thorough examination and medical evaluation to determine each patient's candidacy for liposuction at our offices in Jupiter and Lake Worth, South Florida.

The Liposuction Procedure

The time it takes to complete a liposuction procedure varies depending on the size of the area that is being treated and the amount of fat that is being removed. The basic liposuction technique involves making a tiny incision through which a narrow tube is inserted. Fat cells are then suctioned out of the body through the tube. 

At our practice near West Palm Beach, South Florida, Dr. Rankin performs variations of the basic liposuction technique in order to adapt the procedure to suit each individual patient. He is trained in various techniques including suction assisted liposuction, power assisted liposuction, ultrasound liposuction, and SmartLipo™. Dr. Rankin uses the fluid injection technique known as tumescent liposuction. This is the injection of fluid to help break up fat deposits while constricting the blood vessels in the area to prevent post operative bruising. The tumescent fluid also helps to minimize pain.

After Liposuction

After liposuction, patients may experience some minor swelling, pain, and/or numbness. These are temporary effects of the surgery, and medication is provided to help patients alleviate discomfort. It is also normal for fluid to leak from the incision location for up to 48 hours. Patients are usually fitted with a compression garment to reduce swelling and aid in the healing process.
